Home

The Penwell is a historic building located in the popular Hip-Strip area in Missoula, MT.

The Penwell Building was originally an old hotel built in 1910. Its purpose was to serve passengers from the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (the Milwaukee Road), which began passenger service in 1911.

The Penwell has 35 apartments of which 8 are Airbnb studios on the 2nd and 3rd floor above retail storefronts.  No pets and no smoking is allowed in the complex.  There is a security door located in the middle of the building facing 3rd street for tenants.   Some apartments are studios and some are large studios/1bd units.  Some units share dormitory style bathrooms/showers that are cleaned daily by onsite janitor. Approximately half of the apartments have private bathrooms and half share 4 bathroom/showers in the building (2 toilet rooms and 2 shower rooms per floor).   This apartment complex has a very laid back atmosphere with the tenants and is NOT a party place.  Many university students occupy these apartments as well a mix of other tenants in all walks of life.  No onsite laundry available, but 2 laundry mats located within 3 blocks of building.
